information design / interactive web scrollytelling
Beyond Brockovich examined the continuing flow of contaminants into drinking water across the U.S. I built an interactive webpage using html/css/js to highlight some of the most prevalent contaminants.
This interactive storytelling website was just one component of a larger project in collaboration with my Harvard CSCI E-79 team, and shed light on the varying standards held by the EPA, WHO, and EWG for acceptable levels of contaminants in drinking water.
With over 40 million residents, the California limit for Hexavalent Chromium (HC6+) is 500 times above the limit recommended by the EWG.

Arsenic, Nitrate and TTHMs can also be found lurking in the water supply across the United States. The numbers below indicate residents impacted by Public Water Systems that contain contaminants above legal limits.

Texas - Public Water Systems in Texas showed significant levels of Arsenic. With over 220,000 people exposed, long-term exposed can increase risks for kidney and prostate cancer.

Oklahoma - Public Water Systems in Oklahoma showed significant levels of TTHMs. With over 260,000 people exposed, there is a great risk of carcinogenic activity.
